How will the Partners In Survival develop into a national program?

Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC) has been awarded a $1.1 million grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, GA, to bring its successful Partners In Survival program to underserved African American, Latino and Native American communities. The CDC grant to MABC is the first to recognize the positive benefits of educating men on how to provide critical day-to-day emotional, mental and physical support and care to their wives, mothers, partners, daughters and other loved ones stricken with breast cancer.

Who is working with MABC to develop Partners In Survival?

In order to reach a national audience, MABC is partnering with cancer organizations who have a history of working with minorities and who have access to cancer survivors and their families. Each of the collaborative partners has a history of improving the quality of care and increasing the availability of psychosocial support services to the groups they serve, and each has recognized the need to serve the partners of women with breast cancer in order to improve their overall care. MABC's partners are:
•     National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer II: Network Project
•     Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center's Spirit of Eagles Program
•     Nueva Vida (New Life)
•     Cinta Latina (Latin Ribbon)
In addition, MABC is proposing as one of its key activities to develop a host of new educational materials to accompany the Partners in Survival program.
